HISTORY

Since 1888, Mahidol University has devoted itself to spreading the “wisdom of the land.” Fifty years ago it established its first international program, and has now become Thailand’s premier university with several English language programs.

Ten years ago Mahidol’s Board of Directors recognized the changing nature of international education. A 2008 steering committee recommended Mahidol University create its own demonstration school. The school would apply improved educational methods to prepare students for a rigorous university level education.

In 2013 Mahidol University International Demonstration School, or MUIDS, opened its doors with nearly 200 students. The curriculum, a combination of Thai and American standards, includes a strong core: English, Math, Social Science, Science, and Thai Studies—and a range of elective courses intended to appeal to a variety of interests, from pure sciences to business studies.

Students engage in a variety of assessments from traditional pencil based tests to projects and performances. Students gain not just a strong academic foundation and practical experience, but a life-long passion for learning.

Premier Thai and international universities have accepted MUIDS’ first graduating class. MUIDS will continue to build on this success: educating students with strong critical thinking skills, a sense of integrity, honesty, and the courage to lead.
